Data Driven Decisions

Most companies will agree whole heartedly that they make data driven decisions. They view their dashboards daily, may even get a mid-day update on how sales are tracking today, but the vantage point is often limited to a set of high-level metrics. Only when a random question requires digging a little deeper do data deficiencies begin to pop up. It is not uncommon at that point for the response to be “We’ve never looked at it that way” or “We have the data, it will just take some time to get it run”. It goes without saying that data that takes time to “run” may not be something your team is keeping track of frequently.
Take for example, a quick casual restaurant. Most will know the number of parties they seat in a day, how many “checks” or transactions were processed, and how many appetizers, meals, drinks, and deserts were served. But how many record the actual number of people per party? Without this metric, it is difficult if not impossible to get an accurate read on spending per person. And the more your restaurant sells “shareables”, the more important that read on number of people will be. It’s worth the time to inventory what information you have, and what you don’t have, that could change the way you think about your business.

Brightline – On Track for 2017

Brightline, an express rail service between Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach, will begin operating this summer. The trains will offer an easy commute for South Florida travelers who regularly take I-95 to and from work, as well as those who would just like to leave the car at home and enjoy the comfort and safety of train service to sports and cultural events.
